The Drive Test
What the examiner Will Look For
Each person applying for a commericial drivers license must pass
a special on-road drive test during daylight hours . This test checks
to see if the driver can safely operate a commercial vehicle.
THE DRIVE TEST
The examiner will instruct you over a pre-planned drive test route.
You will be asked to make turns, to back up, to stop, and to start
throughout the route in order to evaluate your skills. You will
be required to correctly demonstrate the following:
left turns;
right turns;
a railroad crossing;
a stop and start on a grade;
driving up a hill or grade;
driving down a hill or grade;
stopping at and going through intersections;
driving on straight sections of urban/rural roads;
driving around curves;
driving under an underpass or across a bridge;
driving on an freeway; and
backing in a straight line and curved backing.
ON ROAD DRIVE TEST
Throughout the test, you will also be tested on your general driving
behaviors:
using the clutch properly;
using gears properly;
using brakes properly;
obeying traffic signs;
obeying all speed limits, and;
operating the vehicle safely.
