Passenger Endorsements

Passenger Endorsements

As a bus driver you have special responsibilities. You are not only responsible for the condition and safe operation of your vehicle, but also for the safety of your passengers.

To safely transport passengers, you must have professional driving skills.

Because of the “precious cargo” bus drivers transport, you must always drive defensively.

Be prepared to anticipate careless or reckless actions by other drivers, pedestrians, and even your own passengers.

Many employers have special rules for bus drivers to follow. You should learn these rules and follow them.

You must have a Commercial Driver’s License if you drive a vehicle designed to carry 16 or more persons, including the driver.

All public school bus drivers are required to have a commercial license. You must also have a passenger endorsement on your Commercial Driver’s License.

To obtain a passenger endorsement, you must pass both a knowledge test on the information contained in this section and a skill test in a bus-type vehicle.
